Jesus Manifesto by Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola is an excellent book that addresses the greatest personality to ever walk the earth and shape human history. In the contemporary culture of church programming and church decline, this book addresses the main issue of irrelevant and declining churches – it is all about Jesus.
Ghandi once said, “Christian are so unlike their Christ.” The authors assert that the world likes Jesus; they just do not like the church and those who represent Jesus. As the title indicates, this book is about Jesus and calls for a reframing of one’s paradigm regarding Him. The authors cut through the religious platitudes and call for a simple and yet consuming love for Jesus.
For those who prescribe to be Christians, this is a must read.

Classic Wisdom For The Professional Life is an inspiring and quick read. It is a broad collection of quotations by successful persons ranging from Aristotle to Walt Disney. Something I particularly appreciate about what Mr. Curtis has done is that he has created a collection of timeless quotes from ages past and combined them with quotes from contemporary influencers that will prove to be timeless as well. The quotations in this book cover a broad spectrum of professional topics. The quotations are brief enough to remember and interesting enough to stay with you throughout your day. They also provide interesting insights into the business and life philosophies of many contemporary individuals of which I am aware of their success, but not their thinking and reasoning processes. Two surprising examples would be Conan O’Brien and Jeff Foxworthy. While I often think of these individuals as comedians, they have also become very successful individuals. Classic Wisdom For The Professional Life would make a great graduation gift, a great tool for public speaking topics/quotes, and a ready resource for Twitter if you want to provide your followers daily “tweets” of inspiration. I am a collector and purveyor of quotes and I will proudly add this book to my collection.
